Hot Damn! Look At The New ZamZuu!

Digg me

I’ve seen a ton of upgrades and website enhancements during my tenure with YTB. Quite honestly, I’ve lost count how many times our sites have been updated with new looks, technology features, and a wider array of product offerings.

Not to diminish anything the company has done in the past, because at the time it was released it was big. However, what I saw yesterday afternoon with a new look, technology improvements, social connectivity and user friendly design of this site tops anything the company has ever released.

Welcome to the new ZamZuu.

See, this is a result of what happens when companies pay attention to current trends and hot features of the day. Technology, especially on the Internet, is constantly changing and evolving. What’s really cool about a site like ZamZuu, is that you can implement certain features and redesigns like this on a regular basis to keep customers engaged.

There are many new features with the new site. The new look is much easier to navigate, by redesigning categories, keeping everything is what’s known in site design as “above the fold”. Let’s face it, people are lazy and scrolling down a long page just doesn’t cut it. Now, just about everything can be found without the need of scrolling down a single inch. (Trust me, it’s a very important feature – more important than you think.)

Another new addition is the shopping cart within ZamZuu.com. Now, customers can shop and purchase products within the same shopping experience. This in turn will increase the average amount of cash back for customers. (The more they buy – the more they save.)

On a promotional front as either a Free Agent or Site Owner with Zamzuu there’s a very cool feature that personally I’ve been waiting for.

Twitter and Facebook integration.

Now Free Agents and Site Owners can link directly to hundreds of stores with a simple click of a button. See a special sale at Macy’s? Tell your Facebook family about it with a link directly to Macy’s through your ZamZuu site. They get cash back, and you get a commission.

How easy is that?

I’ve got about 1000 friends on Facebook, and a portion of them are also partners in YTB and ZamZuu. They’ve already gotten the hang of this feature, and they understand what a real game changer this is.

There’s still a bit of cleanup to be done, and more stores to add over the coming weeks. While the links are correct in the Facebook integration, the API pulls a generic description for ZamTek for example. (Easily changed manually at this point however.)

There are a couple bugs to be fixed – which is inevitable when a release like this is offered to the general public. Then the company will focus on the next upgrade.

Another upgrade you ask? Yes, another upgrade for the YTB Travel Network sites with much of the same functionality as our new ZamZuu sites.

Can you imagine?! The travel site upgrade was supposed to be released in two weeks during Funshine. However, with all the work being done with the ZamZuu sites, and the new partnership with Orbitz, Funshine has been postponed until the travel upgrade is ready for launch. If it’s anything like this ZamZuu launch – I can pretty much promise it will be worth the wait.

And to the folks at the Home Office who worked on this ZamZuu upgrade. Hot damn! This is a nice upgrade!

Many thanks to you for your hard work – and especially for implementing the features the field wanted most.

ZamFest Wellness Spectacular

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

Digg me

I have to admit – I’ve never been a “health and wellness” nut.

Wasn’t a big problem when I was younger. It’s not that I’ve always been a couch potato, I’d get my exercise while golfing (walking – not a cart), swimming laps or more recently Your Shape on the Xbox Kinnect.

Likewise I needed to eat better. Trust me, I could live on a steady diet of my wife’s lasagna for the rest of my life – but it would come at the price of exploding like a balloon, and probably not living very long to boot. While I do eat my vegetables, and fruit for that matter – various supplements have been tried for years without much satisfaction. These supplements have been tried not because I wanted to mind you – but because it’s been drilled into my head that I needed them.

It’s not that I don’t agree that I need nutrition in my body – I certainly do. I just don’t believe there’s a one size fits all solution out there. We all have individual needs.

My personal choice for “supplements” this past year has been smoothies. We downloaded an inexpensive little e-book over a year ago that we still use to this day to blend very tasty and healthy meal options. Not only do I like them, but our son LOVES them. (He’s worse than I was when it comes to eating his veggies.) What I like about making smoothies over any of the supplements (even the “all natural” ones) is that I know exactly what’s in them. Plus, you can’t get much more natural than real blueberry, mango, strawberry, banana, and spinach. I’ve even have one of my own creations that’s a family favorite dubbed “The Purple Surprise”. The “surprise” is for our son, who loves it, but wouldn’t drink it if he knew it was loaded with spinach. Oddly enough, most of the “purple” also comes from blueberry, which he wouldn’t eat on their own. (Weird, I know!)

As I’ve gotten older, taking care of my body as well as my mind has been increasingly more important to keep up with the hectic pace of life. I’m not getting any younger – and having enough energy to do the things I need to do is important.

Thing is – I’ve had to find my own way to better health. While tons of people join gyms or run miles every day, that type of exercise isn’t for me. Others will down dozens of pills every day, or drink some sort of juice to supplement their diet. I really don’t have anything against it – but it’s just not my thing.

I’m certainly not going to tell you what you should or shouldn’t do when it comes to your health or wellness. It’s too much of a personal preference in my opinion. While smoothies work great for us, and I find them incredibly easy to make – drinking readymade juice might be much simpler and just as healthy for someone else. I’ve come to find “juice” however actually loses some of the nutritional value that’s found in the leftover pulp. Smoothies don’t lose a bit of the nutrition – and in the case of spinach – breaking it down actually increases it’s nutritional value.

What I am going to suggest to you however, is finding SOMETHING that improves your health and wellness. For many, that’s a daunting task – and I can certainly appreciate that perception. (Been there.) I followed and tried several programs that I just couldn’t get excited about – but knowing how important it is, I kept trying different things until I found something that not only made a significant impact but improved my overall wellbeing.

Better health and losing weight may be a resolution you’ve made for the New Year – and maybe you’ve tried something and figured out that you love the idea – but haven’t found the right regimen or supplement that suits you. That’s why I really like ZamZuu’s national webcast event. It’s the perfect opportunity to showcase all the amazing products available on the ZamZuu Product Distribution System. From Featured Stores to specific deals in the cash back affiliate network, it could provide the perfect solution for you in reigniting that New Year’s resolution.

If you’ve found something – great. If you’re satisfied with where you are right now – more power to you. But if you’re looking for something and haven’t been able to find the right mix – this is certainly worth taking a look. Unlike some of the other health and wellness products out there – you won’t find a one size fits all approach or any hard sells from ZamZuu. Never has been our style, we simply offer options.

Participating is easy as pie. Just choose a time that’s convenient for you and head on over to ZamZuuTV.com. ZamZuu will be broadcasting every half hour and we’ll continue to broadcast through Monday, January 31. In addition, ZamZuu has secured deals that are good through the end of the month so there’s still plenty of time to check it out.

Just tune in to the webcast by visiting ZamZuuTV.com and see some great ideas and deals to better health and wellness.

I can’t promise that you’ll find what you’re looking for – but with so many options and products available there’s at least a chance you’ll find something that you can pick up and get you on the right track.

To your health!

The Next Ten Years

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

Digg me

Not many companies make it past their first year in business. Even fewer make it past year 3. If a company manages to make it through year 5, most business experts will tell you that the company has passed their litmus test concerning “risk”.

Some will tell you MLM has even a slimmer chance of making it past year one. Even if it does make it past the first year, there’s this myth that MLM is nothing more than a house of cards that will eventually topple. These aren’t “experts” mind you, (not by any stretch of the imagination) they’re just people who regurgitate what they were told or what they’ve read somewhere else.

Truth be told, when you look at Amway, Avon, Mary Kay, Tupperware, NuSkin, PrePaid Legal, and Primerica, these examples dispel the myth with documented cases that MLM can be built to last for decades. In Avon’s case, more than a century.

Before YTB, not a single MLM Travel Program made the cut in the travel industry. I can’t tell you all the reasons why these MLM’s failed, mostly because they were here and gone long before I came into the picture in January 2005. I’ve read about dozens of them over the years and can only guess at this point what sealed their ultimate demise. When YTB Travel Network entered the picture however, there was an enormous shift in the way people actually booked travel – moving from “brick and mortar” to “click and order”. There was also a simple shift in mindset and the companies focus.

In 2001, it was the first really big wave of retail sales moving to the internet. Companies like Priceline, Travelocity, and Expedia were making massive jumps in sales as people found it much more convenient to book their own travel on line. Today, Expedia tops the list of Travel Agencies – doing more business than any other “brick and mortar” out there.

Me? I just wanted a small slice of the pie. So I signed up, bought a domain, and BandBVacations.com was born in January 2005. Other than my first full year in business, I’ve made money selling travel every year since. The only reason why my first year didn’t produce a profit was because all the travel “booked” in 2005 were for trips to be “consumed” in 2006. (You don’t get paid in this industry until after the travel has been consumed.) Once a stream of bookings were created after the first year, it’s been profitable every year since – selling “travel”.

From what I’ve read and heard elsewhere, the problem with Travel MLM’s was they were nothing but “card mills”. Pitching that the average “Joe” had an opportunity to travel on the cheap using travel agent credentials. That wasn’t YTB’s focus however. (Although some in the company did abuse that privilege.)

YTB’s goal was much bigger and far more threatening to the industry – to become the largest supplier of travel in the world.

Pretty big goal to be sure. Some would say it was outrageous – even outlandish. Regardless of either opinion, it’s the one key difference that cemented YTB’s success in the industry, making YTB Travel Network the first Travel MLM – and to this day, the only Travel MLM that really matters in the industry.

So, how did YTB Travel Network do in accomplishing its goal of being the largest supplier of travel in 10 years? Depends on how you look at it. While it’s true the company fell woefully short by billions in taking over the number one spot – by projecting and reaching for such a massive goal, the company has solidified itself smack dab in the middle of some of the biggest, most respected agencies in the country.

Not bad for a bunch of MLM Yahoo’s. ;-P

That doesn’t mean however, that YTB Travel Network totally escapes what I’ve come to recognize as nothing more than “guilt by association”. The Network Marketing industry is riddled with a plethora of myths and misconceptions. Combine that with the negative impact other Travel MLM’s had when they entered and then abused the travel industry. What you stir up are intense emotions in traditional sectors of the industry – and quite frankly rightfully so.

You can’t slap a standard – one size fits all label on YTB however. The company broke that mold when it was founded 10 years ago. If the company and its model was indeed the same as all the others, it would have suffered the same fate. I might add that that the company has withstood what most would assume would be insurmountable odds over the last few years. In reality, losing a single cruise line couldn’t possibly have the impact the industry was hoping for. True, it might have worked if everyone would have piled on like traditionalists had hoped for. But when you’re dealing with true business minds and logic instead of pure emotion and anger, that ship never sailed. Vendors weren’t that dumb. Didn’t matter what the “perception” was – YTB as a whole sold a boat load of travel.

Then there’s IATAN. Again, if the perception was correct as stated by IATA that the company was in the business of “selling” credentials to third parties, the company would have folded long ago. Others may have done it, but in YTB – the only way to obtain that credential was to earn it like everyone else – by selling travel. When the company tried to correct the error and appeal – they snubbed their nose at us. Since credentials, and free rides was merely a perception or label, we moved on and continued with our core model and product – producing even more sales and more bookings without the almighty IATAN at our side.

After the attempt to cut off suppliers and IATA failed, California filed a $25 million law suit with claims the company was illegal pyramid just one day before the 2008 Convention. Problem with that was Jerry Brown, the Attorney General at the time who filed the suit, figured out that nobody has ever paid for the “opportunity to recruit others”. (A very common myth in the industry.) Regardless, California still collected $875 thousand in the deal for themselves, leaving the last tenth of the million dollar settlement to the victims Jerry Brown boldly claimed he was trying to protect.

The Government will always get theirs – and since we did nothing illegal we kept our business.

Biggest problem I see with critics who enjoy slamming and shaming the company and its people – is they can’t correlate “BandBVacations.com” with an actual “product”. Never understood that – really. Nexion sells several hosting plans, TravelQuest does as well, even Expedia sells “booking engines” to those looking to get into the travel business.

But try to do that with an MLM – and suddenly the “value” is nonexistent simply because these minions fear the word recruiting. A phobia some never really overcome or grasp. Reality is, all those Hosting Agencies above are attempting to “recruit” you. They need new blood – new recruits in order to maintain and build their brand.

Regardless of what appears to be an obvious oversight regarding the word “product” or even “value” the company has learned how to “dumb it down” so that anyone, (including staunch critics) can understand what we are selling and being paid on moving into its next 10 years of business. (Truthfully, nobody’s really that dumb, they just like to play dumb on the Internet.)

As the parent company YTB International moves into the next 10 years of business, it’s expanded it’s product offering to another huge boom on the Internet.

Online shopping.

Like Travel, YTB or ZamZuu isn’t the first to market this type of product in the industry. Nor will the company be the first to successfully market an online shopping experience in the industry. But there will be a key difference in how commissions are paid to the Representative who sells it.

What hasn’t changed is the “fee” to become a Representative of the company. It’s free – nor are there any requirements to purchase any of the products associated with the company. But the company has finally come up with a way to ease the fears and phobias surrounding paying commissions in Network Marketing with what’s called a Z-Kit.

It’s silly really – not the actual product mind you, but the idea that people actually need a physical product they can feel – touch – and grasp in our industry in order to calm the nerves. Government and society has a lot to do with that. People like me (or others in the company) who can think on their own in logical, rational terms are in the minority. We have to appear to be like everyone else in order to be accepted – or in this case – to be able to keep jerks like Jerry Brown and Lisa Madigan from filing outlandish lawsuits with claims that it’s some sort of pyramid.

What ever happened to logic, and independent thinking?

The problem isn’t the industry – it’s outsiders who perceive the industry through a fixed lens that create the problems. While Royal Caribbean, IATA, Jerry Brown and Lisa Madigan all made bold claims about who we are and what we do. None of them hit the nail on the head.

How can I make such a bold claim? I don’t – but my website does. See, it’s still here – regardless of all the overzealous and wild claims to the contrary.

While I didn’t join the company when it first evolved 10 years ago – my bet is that it will still be here during the next 10 years. That excites some, and terrifies others. Regardless of which end of the spectrum you fall in – BandBVacations.com isn’t you’re choice to make.

It’s mine – and will be for decades to come. And for that I am grateful that there is somebody out there that still relishes and promotes independence, logic, and value in this world.

The “Pulse” of ZamZuu

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

Digg me

Years ago YTB Travel Network launched a newsletter called “The Travel Compass”. It’s a weekly publication that got off to a slow start when it was first released but found a rhythm after a few months. “The Travel Compass” has been a regular read going on four – maybe five years now.

I’ve never been with a company that communicates so effectively. Not only can I count on the information being in my in-box at the same time each and every week – the information is timely and relevant. We model our own newsletter after this type of publication.

Last week, ZauZuu launched a new daily publication called ZamZuu Pulse. It’s a daily, short piece that contains relevant and valuable information that not only gives an inside scoop on what’s going on with the company – but highlights the upward trend the company is currently experiencing.

For example :

During our recent ZamFest event over Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the companies sales skyrocketed. Looking at just two of the four Affiliate shopping networks that we partners with, sales tripled when compared to the same shopping days one year ago. That’s TRIPLED to over $264,000 in retail sales for those two networks alone.

Or how ’bout this :

Most experts agree that the average person in this industry sells or recruits somewhere between 2.6 and 2.8 people. In September, the first full month of the Free Revolution, ZamZuu had six new Free Agents for every new Broker. In November, that figure was eight to one – nearly three times the industry average.

It’s this kind of communication that everyone in the company can use and benefit from. It takes just a couple minutes and it helps you stay plugged in and motivated – giving you a “pulse” on what’s going with your company.

I’d highly recommend this piece as part of your daily routine – so if you’re not getting this submit a support ticket in you back office and make sure you get it. You’ll be glad you did.

Cyber Monday Sales Jump 20% Over 2009

Sunday, December 5th, 2010

Digg me

Remember the fuss a couple years ago when online travel was gaining momentum over traditional brick and mortar? Today, Expedia books more travel than any other agency – traditional or otherwise. As well, four of the top ten travel agencies are online booking engines, booking more the $51 BILLION in travel in 2009 combined.

Today we see retail gaining momentum within the online arena.

Last week, data from Coremetrics, an IBM Company was released to the public – announcing that online sales in the United States were up 19.4% compared to last year’s Cyber Monday event. Web sales were also estimated to be 31.1% higher than Black Friday, three days earlier, making this past Cyber Monday the biggest online shopping day of the year.

John Squire, of Coremetrics stated that Internet shopping last Monday was highlighted by major retailers offering free shipping and other aggressive discounts to lure consumers.

“Consumers this year appear much more willing to open their wallets and are turning to online stores for the convenience of shopping wherever and whenever they like,” he said. “Retailers have done an exceptional job across the board of appealing to consumers with highly personalized promotions and a slew of free shipping promotions”.

The average order value (AOV) online was also up from $180.03 to $194.89 for an increase of 8.3 percent. (The largest jump by the way was 2009 with the average order jumping from $130 in 2008 to $180 in 2009.) Consumers flocked online a week ago, with shopping momentum not only being maintained throughout the day, but had stronger momentum all day compared to Cyber Monday just one year earlier.

Social Media is also making an impact according to the report:

The growing trend of consumers using their networks on social sites for information about deals and inventory levels continued on Cyber Monday. While the percentage of visitors arriving from social network sites is fairly small relative to all online visitors — nearly 1 percent — it is gaining momentum, with Facebook dominating the space.

ZamFest ring a bell for anyone? If you were on line at all last weekend, it seemed as if everyone was talking about the deals found online. Facebook, Twitter, even e-mail campaigns that flooded our in-box from merchants ready and willing to service eager shoppers.

During the Holiday’s in 2009, online spending jumped from just 6% to 12% and did not decrease afterward. If this trend continues into 2011 like it did in 2010, look for online sales to maintain between 15% and 20% of all retail spending.

And here we are…ahead of the paradigm shift yet again. I’ve got to hand it to the Founders of our Company. True visionaries who always appear to be ahead of the curve before major shifts and trends start popping up. They did it with A.L. Williams – then YTB Travel – and now it looks like ZamZuu is destined to hit the same high marks.

Travel has always been my first love – and I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity YTB gave me when everyone else in the travel industry didn’t give me the time of day. Now I’m involved in a new stream of revenue that increases the opportunity and income just by hanging around winners. I’ve been partnered with Affiliate Programs for years, referring products for years. (Long before ZamZuu.) This program not only expands the merchants, but manages hundreds of stores under a single umbrella.

You’ve got to love it – especially when you understand and can appreciate the kind of Founders that run this company. Smart, insightful, and extremely motivational.

Honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Why would you? They give new meaning to the words “Happy Holiday’s”.

Only “Line” I’ll Be In – Is Connected To The Internet!

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010
16
Digg me

A couple weeks ago we kicked off the Christmas Shopping Season with ZamFest. In that report, we linked to a chart provided by ZippyCart.com that expected that almost half (49%) off all holiday shoppers plan to shop online. (Up from 42% a year ago.)

Online retailers are in FULL SWING this Holiday Season to capture the increase of online shoppers. I have two folders in Outlook that collect e-mails from retailers. One for retailers I’ve spent money with online – and one from retailers I’ve made money with online. If I didn’t corral the massive amount of promotional e-mails into these folders, they’d overtake my e-mail account. The massive amount of solicitations from retailers is overwhelming as they all try to convince you that they have the best deals this Holiday Season.

While I haven’t been able to read every single promotion, I’ve yet to see one that mentions standing in line at the store during Black Friday or Cyber Monday. In fact, many of them point out that the line connected to Internet is not only shorter, but offers a larger selection, and is cheaper to boot.

To take advantage of the increase of online shoppers ZamFest is back for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Now, shoppers can take part in all the fun by joining ZamZuu for a savings spectacular without the long lines. Wearing their pajamas while shopping for deals is actually encouraged during the event when it begins at 12:01 a.m. Eastern on Friday, November 26. The company will begin posting amazing Black Friday Dealz on the ZamZuu Dealz Facebook page.

Personally, I hate shopping and this is a much better alternative for this annual frenzy. The thought of getting tangled up in the chaos of Black Friday is an event I’d rather avoid. Part of it comes from years of working in the retail industry with Gateway (before they closed their stores) and HiFi Buys (before they filed for bankruptcy.) The frenzy – the mess – the extended hours – and the attitudes of shoppers during this time of year did not make my Holiday all that cheerful or jolly.

I know there are shoppers who either camp out all night, or get up way too early to hit the stores before the sun comes up Black Friday to head out to stores. To me, that’s just nuts. Especially when you can shop online and get that same deal in just a few clicks and you’re done. No mad rush, no long lines, and no disappointment that you have to trek to another store when the display has been decimated by crazed shoppers who got there before you did.

No thanks.

Another big push I’m seeing in all these solicitations from retailers is “Cyber Monday”. A growing event over the years that’s designed specifically for Internet shoppers and everyone is getting on board to increase sales, making the most out of the Holiday shopping season. If there’s any doubt that online retailing hasn’t caught on or a significant part of a retailers overall strategy to increase revenue – you don’t need to look any further than annual event.

ZamZuu is also hosting a special Cyber Monday webcast beginning at 12:01 a.m Eastern, Monday, November 29 and rebroadcasting for a full 24 hours of unbelievable deals from ZamZuu. A great opportunity to pick up some great presents with special savings all from the comfort of home.

We did the MAJORITY of our shopping during the same weekend last year and never left the house. We found better inventory, better prices, and a much better atmosphere. (NO CROWDS) These online stores were also open 24/7 so we could shop and buy when at a time that suited us best.

Last year, we had all the kids presents drop shipped to Pittsburgh (Grandma and Grandpas) keeping the presents out of reach from prying eyes! A big plus for us as parents, and the kids where actually surprised last year. (LOL!)

Don’t miss it! These amazing deals are only a couple days away with Black Friday Dealz and the ZamZuu webcast on Cyber Monday!
