Got My MoJo On…

Digg me

Sorry I haven’t been around much lately. It’s not that I haven’t wanted to write before now, but writing has taken a back seat to business the last few weeks. Business has been going much better than expected right out of the gate, although it’s consumed a lot of my time and energy. It was important to me to set new standards and procedures right away, which has been welcomed by everyone that has seen both the old and new version of this business and management team. The new look and feel of the business has really paid off in spades.

When I first wrote about this business, and how optimistic I was about this new venture I mentioned how YTB (or any MLM really) was the perfect proving ground to change ones habits and thinking from being an “employee” to “business owner”. So much of what I was introduced to when I joined YTB wasn’t actually developed for MLM, but for traditional business. It was only adapted into the MLM model because it was sound business.

The lessons learned and the habits created over the last six years with YTB have made this transition from MLM to traditional business a piece of cake.

Don’t misunderstand me. There’s a lot of hard work involved. When my head hits the pillow at night, I’m exhausted. I don’t have a set schedule (like some 9-5) and practically work all hours. That being said, there’s still a nice balance of work and family time. For example, when the kids come home from school in the afternoon, I still take breaks to get them snacks, ask how their day was, and work with them on homework. After they’re in bed, I’m cashing out the daily sales, placing orders, preparing the lineup for the next day’s events, and responding to customer and employee e-mails.

Some of the daily tasks might have been different with YTB, but the work ethic and drive was instilled in me over the years because of MLM.

I also remember a time when commissioned sales intimidated the hell out of me. I never thought I was very good at it. One of those limiting beliefs I had about myself that just never served me very well. Sales always equated to being pushy for some reason – and that’s never been something I’ve been comfortable with. It wasn’t until YTB that it became a sheer numbers game of just asking and collecting an answer. Then it began to click. Not everyone gets (or wants) what you have. While most spend time trying to convince the wrong person for all the wrong reasons, I simply offered up features, advantages and benefits and collected an answer.

As Jerome Hughes has always said – “Tell me “Yes” – Tell me “No” – but tell me quick, I gotta go.”

I also liked what Rick Ricketts has always said – “I get up every morning and look for people who are looking for me.”

This idea of trying to convince family and friends is probably the biggest load of bull I’ve ever heard about MLM. It’s not that you shouldn’t ask, but if they simply don’t want to – your time is much better spent looking and asking someone else who will say yes. It’s not that I, Jerome, or Rick are any better at recruiting than anybody else.

We just asked more people.

In addition, when you have the right mindset and attitude, the right circumstances and people fall right into place. Part of my responsibility with the new business is new business development. I’ve since recruited someone who will focus on that aspect of the business in the coming months, but it’s my responsibility to get that ball rolling. One of those new areas is an entire county that was always part of the territory but never worked. A large task for sure, that I really wasn’t looking forward to cultivating. (Especially when I’ve got so many other responsibilities that I’m trying to manage.)

While out pounding the pavement in another territory, I got a lead from one of my other customers. I come to find out that this new lead happens to be in the very county I’m responsible for cultivating. While traveling, I make an immediate call to the new lead to introduce myself. Turns out, this new lead not only wants what I have, but thinks others could benefit from our services as well. There’s a meeting with a small group of 30 or more coming up in September that this new lead would like me to come out and do a presentation for if I wanted to.

If I wanted to?

Are you kidding me? The chance to present my business and services to 30 plus who could not only use my services but benefit from it in one fell swoop? It was just the shot in the arm I needed to get this new county and territory off the ground – and a lot quicker and easier than I had ever imagined.

I have no idea is you believe in or even know about “The Law of Attraction”. Most, I would hope have at least heard about the movie “The Secret”. I’ve heard both pro and con from others concerning this idea about attracting what you want into your life. Those that are pro know like I do that this “law” is an actual “law”, just like the “Law of Gravity”. You really don’t need to understand it or even except it – but it IS a law all the same. It works whether you want it to or not. It works whether you understand it or not.

Some of my readers are Faith based and “The Law of Attraction” actually parallels faith and belief. It’s not that I don’t have faith in God or a higher power – but my logical mind grasps the scientific aspects that everything we see, feel, and experience is “energy”. Some consider it “new age” or a “gimmick” and that’s fine. Truth is, there’s nothing “new age” about it. The idea and concept has been around for thousands of years.

Having this one person show up in my business out of the blue when my energy and thought levels have been so extreme and positive just adds more proof to me that we are all connected by this energy.

That energy stems from the fact that I’ve attained practical – real world business experience through YTB and MLM. It’s gone past the point of just knowing what to do and how to do it. It’s become habit for me after all these years.

I’ve tried reading books, attended seminars, even tried starting a few businesses prior to YTB without much success. Little did I realize that YTB and MLM would provide the tools and the habits necessary to get my MoJo on and find true business success.

If your serious about changing your circumstances and creating your own future and success in business, you need to not only take a serious look at MLM, but take MLM seriously – not just some hobby. There’s a wealth of information – and a ton of successful, motivated individuals who are more than happy to share and help you along the way. Take it from someone who not only knows, but has experienced it.

It’s real – it’s true – it’s practical. More so than any college course, seminar, or some know it all who thinks he or she has all the answers.

Want Business MoJo? Find a good MLM.

Are You One Of “Those” People?

Digg me

I was working on another article yesterday, and decided to bump it for a video I wanted to share. It’s an attitude that I’ve seen all too often over the years.

Pick your subject – whether it’s politics, religion – even Network Marketing. You’re bound to run into someone who’s all bent out of shape and offended by what you say or do. While this can be bothersome and uncomfortable hearing someone else rant about being offended by something you appear to have caused, the responsibility doesn’t lie with the accused – but rather the accuser.

I learned a long time ago that when it comes to feelings and emotions – they’re yours and yours alone. Everything we look at in this world is neutral and nothing has any meaning except for the meaning that you give it.

What really cracks me up about these “issues” is that most of the time, instead of moving on and spending ones energy and time on something more productive (and healthy) I’ve seen cases where individuals will engross themselves in the very subject that offends them. All in the name of trying to rid themselves (and others) of the offensive subject or thing they find offensive.

Does that really make any sense?

Now I’ve read about this peculiarity from several authors, and have heard about how it all works and what to do about it in various seminars. I’ve yet however, seen anyone explain this anomaly in such a clear, coherent way before. I really don’t know that much about Dr. Gary Daniel, but I do know a thing or two about NLP. That’s short for Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

I’m sure some will get this – and others will find a way to be offended by it.

Just realize that if you are offended, he’s talking about you. ;-P

One Lap At A Time…

Digg me

Remember the exercise on goals we posted from good friend Andy Cauthen at the beginning of the year?

Do you really remember – or are those ‘goals’ distant memories by now? If they are, I’ve been there. (Done that – and also have a t-shirt that says so.)

Some years I do really well with this exercise, while other years – not so much. The biggest difference for me during this year’s goals setting was being sick and tired of all the crap. For the most part, I’ve always chosen to enjoy life. So much so, that I have a really hard time understanding why people feel this need to complain (on a daily basis no less) about what’s wrong.

Truth is – the only thing wrong is THEIR thinking and perspective. What you focus on expands. If negativity and lack are what’s running around in your head, that’s what’s going to show up in reality for you. On the other hand, if you what you focus on is abundance and good – evidence of the same will show up for you.

I made a conscious decision to move in the direction of prosperity and good this year and focus on the natural abundance that nature creates effortlessly. Sometimes that’s easier said than done – but if you can take that first step in the right direction – you’ll move mountains with ease.

Best example I can think of is my own personal experience this summer.

Every summer for the last couple of years I swim laps for exercise. In years past, I would do my laps during the adult swim sessions that the Life Guards would mandate every hour during the summer. Last year, the Home Owners Association decided not to renew the contract with the Life Guard Company, which meant the adult swim time was taken away as well. Therefore, I never got into a rhythm or kept up with my exercise routine.

I not only felt like crap – the guilt for not exercising ate at me all summer long.

This year however, I decided I was going to make time because it was on my goals sheet. I love the swimming experience and it’s truly the only exercise I enjoy. Our entire family loves the water.

It had been two years since I’ve done regular laps in the pool – and at the beginning of the summer it was all I could do to complete just 4 laps in the pool without my arms and legs going limp on me. It also took me forever to recover from such a short stint.

But I kept up with it. Sometimes I had to swim around kids. Other times – I had to head down first thing in the morning or late at night to get my swimming in.

As the summer progressed, I felt myself getting stronger and stronger every week. As a consequence, I felt better and better as the weeks went on with more and more laps being done every week and more and more energy to complete other tasks on my goals list.

Later today, I’ll head down to the pool and swim 1.4 miles or 40 laps without stopping and my arms and legs won’t give it a second thought. It’s become so routine and part of my everyday life that once the pool closes in two weeks, I’ll keep up with it the rest of the year in an indoor pool because it’s something I truly enjoy.

As an added benefit – I find myself thinking more powerfully. Those good vibes radiate out and have attracted more and more opportunities in my life that match what I’m thinking and feeling inside.

This shift in thinking and feeling has been so profound that I’ve befriended on of the most knowledgeable and professional people in the travel industry who has offered up an incredible opportunity to me this weekend. It’s still just an idea at this point, and there’s some ground work that needs to be done before I can open up what it’s all about. If you’re serious about selling travel and have a sincere desire about learning more from the best of the best – you’ll want to keep close tabs in the next few weeks to find out more.

All I can tell you at this point is this: This idea that critics attempt to embed in your belief system that you’re not good enough, not smart enough, and simply can’t accomplish because you’re involved in with a company that “recruits” via MLM – is pure crap. Everything I’ve either known or at the very least suspected about the people who truly make a difference in the travel industry has been verified as absolutely true this weekend in a very enlightening phone conversation.

I’ve been writing about it for years – and it’s because of what I’ve documented here – on this blog and in our newsletter – that I’ve attracted an opportunity that everyone can benefit from.

I’ve got a lot of projects going on right now – and getting this set up will take some time to cross the “T’s” and dot the “I’s” but I truly believe it’s what’s best for our company and the people who are involved. Therefore, it will fall into place in due time.

If you’re passionate about YTB Travel and the travel industry – I promise – you’re going to love it!

Good Things Come To Those Who Are Ready

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Digg me

I know what you’re thinkin’. That’s not the right quote.

True, the quote you’re familiar with is “Good things come to those who wait”. I’ve got a different perspective on that quote from my experience. Frankly, I think waiting is something that’s been embedded into our belief system to keep us “average”. The problem I’ve seen over the years is that far too many people – and sadly this is especially true in the Network Marketing – start a business and then wait.

And wait…

Aaaaand wait…

Never getting around to really doing anything that’s going to grow their business or even produce the first penny in income.

I love what Scott Tomer says in his business overview. He picks someone fairly new out of the crowd and asks them if anyone has stopped them unexpectedly to ask if they just bought a Travel Agency. Sound silly I know. Yet, I actually know folks who think friends, family, and co-worker are going to notice something different about them and guess “You just bought a Travel Agency didn’t you?!”

One of the biggest myths I hear about MLM is that nobody really works. I’m sure there are those that have fantasies about sitting on the couch while the checks pile up in the mailbox. Fact is, I’ve never worked harder in my life. This vision of sitting on my duff and doing nothing makes me laugh.

The difference for me, is that I’ve found a way to get paid for doing what I love. That being said, to a degree, you could hardly call what I do “work” because it certainly doesn’t fell like work in the traditional sense of the word. It’s far from a grind. To the contrary, it’s not only enjoyable but fulfilling. Anybody who tells you that life needs to be a struggle or grind in order to make money hates what they do – and have given up on their dreams.

Opportunities are all around us if you’re simply open and aware of them. But you need to be ready to take advantage of them. Yes, there could be obstacles that creep up that could make things difficult – but with a little brain storming and adjusting they can be overcome.

If you want something bad enough you’ll find a way.

If you don’t – you’ll find an excuse.

I was talking with a friend earlier this week who said that I was lucky to get the writing gig I’m working on this week. I told him a secret that I’m going to share with you about how to get whatever you want in life. (And you might want to write this down.)

“Ask”

Sounds painfully simple I know, but it’s the truth. You’re never going to get anything out of life until you open up and ask for it. Otherwise how is anyone ever going to know what you want or what you’re looking to do? For some strange reason – and I’ve been guilty of this from time to time as well – we’re afraid of asking for what we want. It’s too big – we want to save ourselves the disappointment of being told no – or what will our family or pears think if we excel?

Until you take that first step and tell someone you’re ready to take something on and take action on that opportunity you doomed to a life of mediocrity and scarcity.

Opportunity is abundant if you simply change your focus and intent. Ever see a car you really – really like? Why do you think those cars start popping up all over the road once you’ve fallen in love with it? Because you’re not only focused on it, but your congruent with it. Same goes for the things you don’t like. If there’s something you hate or make you uncomfortable, more evidence will surface to support that because of your focus and intent.

The choice is yours. You can focus on things that support you and move you forward. Or spend your time in discomfort and scarcity – which will compound your frustration and anger.

And it’s never going to change until you stop waiting for outside sources to save you. Pick yourself up, dust yourself of and set your mind to being ready for change and opportunity. Focus on that and watch how lucky you suddenly become simply because your done waiting.

You’re ready.

You Know It’s Only A Movie – Right?

Friday, March 26th, 2010

Digg me

Every watch a scary movie and your heart starts pounding out of your chest?

Have you ever thought about why you do that? I mean it’s a movie – you know that – right? The people on the screen are actors and while nobody actually comes right out and says it; consciously you know that no humans were actually harmed in the making of that film. Consciously, we know that it’s all make believe.

So why does our adrenalin start to surge through our bodies, and our blood pressure rise when watching these actors on the screen?

Because your subconscious mind can’t tell the difference between what’s real and what’s imagined. Our subconscious mind is preparing us for the fight or flight response we have when watching. Subconsciously – that movie is very real!

The vast majority of what we do is subconscious. It’s why we can walk and chew gum at the same time without giving it a single thought. We just do it – seemingly without effort.

We’ve all learned how to do certain things that appear to be effortless now. Walking, riding a bike, swimming, even driving a car. When we first learned how to drive, we couldn’t even hold a conversation at the same time. All our focus and energy was focused on the act of driving. Today, we’re talking on the phone and texting while driving. Which I don’t actually recommend by the way, but see it done all the time. (And what’s with you women putting on makeup while driving?!)

The subconscious mind stores everything that’s not in your conscious mind. All your life experiences, the geometry you learned back in grade school, images of summer camp, to the piano teachers who use to bust your knuckles with a ruler for not doing your scales properly. Everything including your current belief system about money, and society in general all reside in the subconscious mind.

Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.
~Napoleon Hill

Bill Gates was only guided by a “belief” that a computer would be in every home. Those computers needed software. Some called him crazy; companies like IBM didn’t think software was where it was at. You couldn’t touch software – and most didn’t understand software at the time. To this day, the average computer user doesn’t have a firm grasp on computer code to this day.

But you don’t need to understand HTML in order to read this article. Just like you don’t need to understand how electricity operates to turn on a light switch. Nor do you need to know how a combustible engine works in order to drive a car.

My point here is that you don’t really need to know how the subconscious mind works in order to change your circumstances and beliefs. You just have to be willing to believe there is a better way.

“Don’t believe what you see – See what you believe.”

If you’ve been around YTB for any length of time, you’ve heard that before. And it works!

Let’s go back to the car example again. Ever see a car that you really – really like and want? Once you pick that car out it’s amazing how that car all of the sudden pops up wherever you look. It’s happened with every car I’ve ever purchased. When Mustang changed their model back in the early 90′s I fell in love with it and everybody was driving one. Same thing happened early at the turn of the century when Chrysler came out with the 300M.

Why is that? Because the subconscious has triggered a “Google Alert” that provide examples of that car at every possible turn. The cars have always been there, it’s just so happens that you’ve set an alert to provide examples for you without consciously thinking about it.

If it works for cars like this, could it work for clients or prospects for your business? You bet it could!

The trick is finding the desire and belief that it’s possible. You don’t have to know how, nor do you have to have the means to actually do it right now. However, like the movie example, your subconscious doesn’t know that you don’t have your first client or recruit. It’s primary job once you set that desire and belief is to alert you of the examples of a potential client or prospect. All you have to do is recognize that alert and act on it. Dr. Joe Vitale calls it “inspired action”.

Truth be told, this is the exact reason why people get lucky. They not only desire the outcome, they believe it’s possible. The only difference between someone like them and you is that they took action when the subconscious mind sent out the alert.

So the next time someone tells you that a belief or an intent is silly, doesn’t work or impossible. Remember that the subconscious mind can’t tell the difference.

And if you need reminded of that, go rent a scary movie.

How Do You See Things?

Digg me

I had the following story forwarded to me this weekend by one of my subscribers. I have no idea who the author is, or it’s origins. Heck, I don’t even know if it’s true or not. (Although if it isn’t – it should be.)

If you do an internet search on this piece you’ll find pages and pages of this piece – my guess is because it’s touched a lot of lives. My hope is that’s exactly what it does for you.

Change Your Thinking

It will take just 37 seconds to read this and change your thinking.

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room.

One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs.

His bed was next to the room’s only window.

The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.

The men talked for hours on end.

They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation..

Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity an color of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake.

Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats.

Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by.

Although the other man could not hear the band – he could see it in his mind’s eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days, weeks and months passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep.

She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside.

He strained to slowly turn to look out the window besides the bed.

It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window.

The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.

She said, ‘Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.’

Epilogue:

There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.

Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled.

If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can’t buy.

‘Today is a gift, that is why it is called The Present.’

Inspired Action

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010
14
Digg me

I love this time of year. My creativity seams to flow much better after I’ve done a good round of goal setting.

I’ve done goal setting for years. In 2005 I wrote down “new business”, and two weeks later we got a call about YTB. In 2006 I did a round of goal setting and within minutes of putting down on paper the word “writing”, I got a call about some new thing called a blogging. Two years ago I started our Newsletter, complete with a full “7 Day Quick Start” guide to help team members get up and running. None of these ideas were anything more than a thought that was transferred from my head to a piece of paper and then circled as one of the things I wanted to focus my time on.

I couldn’t tell you if any of these opportunities would have come to me if I didn’t spend time thinking about what I wanted to do in my life. Ever since I was introduced to “The Secret” some years ago, I have found some compelling evidence both from personal experience and from what I’ve read that what the mind can conceive it can achieve.

One of the things I’ve learned over the years is to take “inspired action”. Joe Vitale (as well as many others) tell you to follow your small hunches. You may not know where it will lead, but if you do – you’ll be doing exactly what you suppose to do. I know there are many “Christians” who read this blog, and you call that force God. For others who feel more comfortable with “The Universe”  – you can use that terminology if you want.

Think about this phrase for a minute.

“Ask and you shall receive.”

What kills me is that so many people ask for things like a new car, a million dollars, a new soul mate and then just sit there waiting – and waiting – aaaand waiting.

Then end up complaining that it never happens.

That’s because they forgot about another quote that I know they’ve heard over and over again – but never actually do.

“Faith without works is dead.”

The point here is that when you ask for things like a new car, a million dollars, or a new soul mate and focus your energy thinking about those things, opportunities begin to present themselves to nudge you in that direction. It’s up to you to not only recognize what those opportunities are, but to actually move in that direction. If you do, you’ll find that thought an “inspired step” in the direction you want not only moves you closer to your intended goal, but this simple step turns out to be a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Why? Because that’s what God (or The Universe) wants you to do!

Look…here’s a recent example of what I’m talking about.

One of the items on my list of goals was an overhaul of our newsletters auto-responder “7 Day Quick Start Guide”. I’ve changed this guide a few times since I first created it two years ago. One of the nice things about auto-responders is that once it’s written it works on auto-pilot from then on. That being said – it can often take a back seat because it’s done and you really don’t have to think about it much longer.

This series however has been in need of an overhaul or some time. With all the changes to YTB since it was first published there were areas that needed to be updated and produced to provide a more timely and effective program.

Thanks to GoodDay@YTB and Andy Cauthen’s Goal Setting Tips that I published here on the blog and also provided in our Newsletter a brand new stream of subscribers have been opting-in to our Newsletter. I see spikes in subscribers from time to time, but this particular spike got me thinking.

“What if all these subscribers could get that new series I want to do from my goals list?”

That one little hunch or thought – prompted me to actually start my overhaul of the series – and as a result my series has been taken to a whole new level. It’s like being in “The Zone”. New ideas – new topics – new documents – a completely new look and feel that I feel really – really good about. The more I dive into this project – the more I know that this is exactly what I should be doing right now.

What I first thought to be a major “chore” and really didn’t want to do because of all the work it entails has completely turned around to be a truly inspiring and moving experience for me.

Why? I took “Inspired Action”. This thought – opportunity – project – whatever you want to call it – was presented at the best possible time for me because without knowing it – I was ready to do it.

But I would have never known unless I followed up on this hunch.

I think back a rainy night in January some five years ago after our introduction to YTB with an Opportunity Meeting. I remember talking with Ronda about this business as we weighed the possibilities and the obstacles that presented itself during our drive home. I had no idea if this business was for real – nor was it a proven leader like it is today.

But that one small voice – a hunch – a gut feeling told me that this was the right place at the right time for me.

Based on that hunch am I a millionaire? No.

Do I live in some mansion sitting beside the water? No

Am I financially independent with no worries or problems? Hardly.

But I DO have a business that’s provided for myself and my family. Not only that,  I’ve probably grown more as a person and as a business man over the last five years than any other time in my life. I also have a closer relationship with family and more friends than I could ever ask for. It’s been one of the most rewarding, most productive, and most enjoyable times of my entire life.

I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Stop and actually think the next time an idea or thought comes and rattles around in your head. Most of the time our past programming automatically negates it as either too hard or even worse -  impossible.

Kennedy wanted to put a man on the moon before the end of the 1960′s. Was that too hard? Was that impossible?

Just because you set a goal or state an intention of what you want doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. There’s work involved in anything worth while and many times you have to swim out to it instead of just having it was up on shore.

But if you follow your hunches – your gut instinct – not only will it lead you in the right direction – but you’ll have a blast doing it.

Take hold of that thought and use it to take Inspired Action. You’ll never know until you do how enjoyable life can really be.
