Real Wisdom – Lessons from 40 Films in 7 Minutes

I’m the type of person who believes that you can find both lessons and inspiration from just about anywhere. All you have to do is be aware of what’s going on around you. Movies for example are used primarily by most for pure entertainment. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong from the escape that movies provide – we all need that too. But like life, too many of us aren’t aware of the messages and meanings that can really aid us in our own journey we call life.

Someone not only found but took the time to compile “words of wisdom” from 40 films. Most of the clips from these films you’ll probably recognize. There are plenty of Star Wars clips, and my son knows all these quotes. (We’ve watched the entire Star Wars Trilogy countless times.) You’ll also find some very famous quotes that you may have heard at one time or another if you hang out with the right type of people. One of the reasons I like MLM – because they are aware and tuned in to this type of stuff. Although, none of these films have anything to do with Network Marketing or MLM – just life lessons in general.

Enjoy!

Hollywood’s Destructive Lies

Digg me

When I first got into this industry back in 2005 I spent a lot of time in forums reading and posting with others in the industry. I learned the right way to do things – and saw plenty of examples of what NOT to do in this industry.

One of the forum posters who I still admire greatly was a gentleman named Tony Rush.

I think I connected with Tony for a couple of reasons. Rather than being emotionally attached, he was always logical and always very articulate in the way he communicated. He’s always been very open, honest, and unafraid to express his beliefs and opinions – which ironically brought out some very nasty critics of both him and the company he worked with at the time.

That’s were I felt the strongest connection with Tony. Not because he had critics – but because he simply simply didn’t care what anyone else thought. He’s strong enough in his own convictions and beliefs that critical views and opinions are always the property of the one voicing them. (As it should be.)

I’ve kept up with Tony over the years and still get communications from him as a subscriber on his list. He’s always been one of my favorite writers and I enjoy his insight and perspective.

He sent me an e-mail the other day that spoke volumes concerning wealth consciousness.

Yes, it’s a long e-mail – but it’s also a long weekend – and there should be plenty of time to read it. And just like he said before he got going about this subject – the smart ones will take the time to read the entire thing.

If it speaks to you – and you want to find out more about what Tony is doing here’s his website: www.best7minutes.com. I’m not working with him, nor do I know what it’s all about. I happen to be very happy with my direction and company, but I can still appreciate great wisdom and insight.

Enjoy!

~~~
I love movies. All kinds.
But, did you know that there are all kinds of hidden messages in today’s entertainment that will keep you broke??
Don’t believe it?  Check this out:
Think of the most common “good guys” in popular movies:  Harry Potter, Clark Kent (Superman), Peter Parker (Spider-Man),
What do they all have in common?
– they’re all orphans
— they’re all poor and broke
— they’re constantly having to deal with the agendas of wealthy people
Then, think about the bad guys like Lex Luthor, Draco Malfoy, Normon Osborn (that bad guy from Spider-Man), Parker Selfridge, (the bad guy in AVATAR):
– they’re all billionaires
— they’re all malicious, mean, nasty people
— they have no regard for anything but their own money and power
Sneaky stuff, huh?
And that’s not the half of it.  Most of these blockbuster films have hidden messages that you pick up on and carry into your real life.
Things like:
– you cannot be wealthy and be spiritual
— if you focus on having more money, you’ll compromise your values
— being poor allows you to have more spirituality and love
Guys, this stuff is insidious.
Think about the movie TITANIC.  Another Jim Cameron movie full of hidden messages that are designed to appeal to the “mass thinking” of the herd.
You’ve got the hero who is….you guessed it….broke as a convict. The babe in the movie is dating a guy who’s richer than God and he is …..that’s right again…..completely immoral.
EVERY single wealthy person in the movie is shallow, superficial and completely without any spirituality at all.
And, of course, all the poor people are having a good ol’ time, stomping around in the manure down in 3rd class, and they’ve got wonderful relationships and they’re all great parents, etc.
You see it coming, don’t you?
That’s right:  the “journey” of the movie involves the girl (“Rose”) who has to turn her back on prosperity and abundance and choose a life of squalor and poverty.  This is the only way for her to truly be happy.
Of course it’s all BS but that’s Hollywood for you.
By the way, did you get that ending?  Rose is now about 100 years old and she’s been mooching off her daughter who’s working hard to raise a family AND take care of Rose.
And in the final scene, we find out that Rose has been hanging on to this huge diamond ever since the Titanic sunk….this thing is worth tons of money….and instead of using it to help her family or her friends or her daughter or herself…..
….the old bat throws it into the ocean!
Oh, man!  How can anyone see this ending to be about anything other than “Throw away money….it brings you nothing but pain.”
What a crock.
And yet this movie made MILLIONS of dollars.  How’s that for irony?  The filmmakers made millions of dollars teaching you that you should be poor!
So, why am I talking about this?
Simple:  most people are sabotaging themselves and don’t even know it.
They want to be wealthy….but they feel guilty about wanting it.
They want to make money but they think that having lots of money will mean they’re not going to be a good parent, spouse or person.
They want to have a life of luxury and abundance….but they think that achieving it will make it harder to be a spiritual person.
And -  snap — just like that…..you’ve got yourself a nice new recipe for staying stuck in life.
Seriously:  you need to understand this if you want to create a life of freedom.
If you have any of these beliefs, you need to get clear of them NOW:
– money is the root of all evil
— rich people are evil
— rich people get rich at the expense of the poor
— it’s hard to make money
— making money takes hard work
— money is the opposite of spirituality
— money doesn’t grow on trees
— if you want to be wealthy, you’ll have to lie, cheat and steal
Think about it.  If you have ANY of those beliefs, do you really think your subconscious mind is going to let you become wealthy?
No way.
You’ll sabotage yourself faster than you can imagine.
How will you do it?
Oh, you’ll come up with a way.  You’re good at it.
A master.
Next time you spot a juicy opportunity to make money you’ll say dumb stuff like “that’s too good to be true”.
Or next time you someone offers you a way to earn thousands of dollars per week….you’ll say, “That won’t last.  Real wealth is supposed to take a long time to build.”
Or, you’ll turn into the World’s Most Analytical Person and say, “Well, I need to think about it”….and you’ll pretend to think about things for a few days or weeks.  Heck, people have decided to run for PRESIDENT in less time than it will take for you to figure out if you’re ready to get started in a lucrative home business!
Or you’ll say, “Well, I need to understand every single detail before I move forward”.  Which is a lot like saying you won’t start on a vacation trip until all the traffic lights are green at the same time.
I don’t know how you’ll do it.
But you will.
Know how I know?
Because I did this for years.  And so have you.  You’re already doing it.
Seriously.  Everytime I got close to actually making some decent money, I’d somehow manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory……and do something to screw it up or postpone it or to just outright reject it.
And I guarantee that you’re doing the same thing to some degree.
Here’s how I know:
Are you rich right now?
If not,…..why not?
Answer that.
Got your answer?
Well, try this on:  whatever reason you gave for why you’re not wealthy is what’s running your life right now.
In fact, whatever answer you have is actually not even real.  But it’s the stand that you’re taking against being wealthy.
If that were not true, you’d be wealthy already.
Success is a choice.
It’s not difficult.
It’s not hard.
It doesn’t take years of hard work. And it has nothing to do with compromising your morals or values or integrity or any of those things.
But, if you don’t change what you believe is possible about making money……then you’ll always be in about the same situation you’re in now.
Think about it:  don’t you find that your bank account never gets above a certain number for long…..?  And then something comes along to knock it back down again?
Self-sabotage.
Believe me or not.  But this may be the most important financial message that you ever read.
Because if you don’t do something about developing a prosperity consciousness…….
…..well, things will always involve about the same amount of struggle and work and scrambling around to make the ends meet.
What’s the solution?
Here are a few tips:
1.  Start hanging around people who are living the kind of life you want to live.  Lifestyle.  Leisure.  Income.  Whatever.
2.  Start a personal development program.  If your life sucks, it’s because you suck.  It’s not the government, the economy or your job.  It’s you. Start working harder on yourself than you do on your job and you’ll find out that the solution has been with you all along.
3.  Start a business that actually pays you what you’re worth.  Forget working 40 hours a week.  Find something you’re passionate about – or find a solution to a problem and start helping people solve it. Those desires you had as a kid were divined in you for a REASON. It’s time to go after it.
Mall Cop
Digg me
It’s been somewhat of a negative week here on this blog, so I’ve decided to switch gears and adjust a bit to a lighter direction to finish up the week. I just don’t know how some people can be so bitter day in and day out. It’s not that they don’t have fun, but when you do it at the expense of others, criticizing day after day, to me that just reeks of the large pile of manure that’s gotten so high it’s overshadowed any real issues that are going on in our industry right now. You were given two ears and two eyes, but only one mouth for a reason. That’s why I decided to promote Paul Henderson’s idea of industry standards at the beginning of the week. While I don’t agree with the way he went about it, I do agree with his message of industry standards so everyone has a playing field they can not only see and understand, but a clear guideline in who can call themselves a “Travel Agent”.
As much as this industry need some type standard requirements, accreditation and training, some are content to simply complain about what’s wrong, thinking if they market effectively against the Card Mills, the problems will magically go away. Mind you, this type of marketing has been going on for YEARS, while they readily admit that the programs they despise continue to spring up relentlessly.
So you may want to ask them…”How’s that working for you so far?”
They’ve learned no lessons from jokers like Robert Fitzpatrick, John Taylor, Dean Van Druff who have been attempting to slander, (sorry “educate”) the public about the pitfalls of MLM for years. When smart people run across this type of propaganda they see right through the hype. Most of these jokers have been at it for decades and are no closer to ridding the world of this model than they were back then. In fact, the industry has boomed despite the organizations designed to promote how you’ll loose your family, friends, all your money and dignity along the way. You would think you could find a better mouse trap after all this time, but that’s all you get when emotions overrun your logical thinking.
So I’ve decided to take a break, regroup and hopefully come back with a solution instead of joining this obsession over the problem.
The purpose here isn’t because I want to ignore the issues, but change the vibration and mood to enable me to come from a more positive approach. As we’ve seen over the last couple of years, very little has changed for the critics and their perception of Travel MLM’s despite all the changes made by the companies themselves.
They’re still convinced that the only way to correct any issues is to take up the role of snitch, enforcer, or better clarified for me as “Mall Cops”.
Right or wrong, the stereotype of a “Mall Cop” is one who just couldn’t make it as a “real cop” and the only “enforcement job” they can get is that of a security guard. I actually know a “Mall Cop”, and can assure you that not all of them actually fit that stereotype, but the fact remains that most people do perceive the profession in this way.
Hollywood recently came out with a movie that we saw a trailer for when we hosted our daughters birthday party with hundreds of other screaming girls just wooing over Zac Efron in High School Musical 3. (Don’t ask…) Both my wife and I love Kevin James to begin with and find his physical comedy incredibly funny. The roll of Paul Blart seems perfectly suited for him and it looks to be somewhat of a “Die Hard” spoof with some very funny slapstick comedy.
So the wife and I will be heading out to dinner and a movie to escape and laugh out loud. Why not? It takes less energy and puts both of us in a much better mood and enjoy what life has to offer. (Okay, what Hollywood has to offer, but you get the idea.)
If you know what’s good for you, you too would be best served in finding something to laugh at. (And doing it at the expense of others doesn’t count, because slamming someone to the ground just makes them lower, not you higher.)
While it’s difficult dealing with negativity and critics who only know how to use one part of their anatomy, YOU would be better served to use two others by either seeing or hearing of something truly enjoyable to help change the negative vibrations being pummeled on you via the media, the internet, and even people you might know personally.
Watch this trailer and see if it doesn’t turn that frown upside down, and if it does, I hope to see you at the theater this weekend.
Are you a Dreamer? The Astronaut Farmer is a must see!
Digg me
I don’t get to watch many movies these days, other than ones that my son Brian (4) and daughter Brittany (6) want to watch. We must have the entire Pixar collection here at the house for Brian which include “Toy Story“, “Finding Nemo“, “Monsters Inc.“, “The Incredibles“, and the latest release this past summer, “Cars“. Of course Brittany enjoys all things Disney Princess including movies like “Cinderella“, “The Princess Diaries“, and “Beauty and The Beast“.
On Friday when I picked up Brian from Pre-K he had been asking if we could go to the movie store all week, and since he had good week at school I offered to take him to the movie store to pick out a movie for the weekend. Based on his resounding “YEEEEAAH!”, I concluded that this was not only something he would enjoy, but was extremely excited about. So we headed to the movie store.
When we got there, I figured he wanted to head straight for the “kids section”, which we intended on doing, but on the way Brian stopped dead in his tracks and yelled “Daddy, a spaceman in a horse!” He immediately picked up the DVD and handed it to me, the decision was made right then and there that he wanted to take home “The Astronaut Farmer“. I barley remember seeing some trailers for this movie, so I didn’t really know if this was something that would be something Brian should even watch let alone enjoy. Typically, I’m very cautious obviously when it comes to movies that I allow my kids to watch, so I flipped the cover over and read what this story was all about.
The first thing I noticed about the back cover was the name of the rocket, “The Dreamer”. There was a picture of the main character played by Billy Bob Thornton, saying goodbye to his family before he launched into space in a rocket he has build in his barn on a farm in Texas. I then went on to read description of the movie which stated:
“All systems are “Go” for Charles Farmer. He’s faced bank foreclosure, neighborhood naysayer’s and a government alarmed by his huge purchase of high-grade fuel, but now he’s ready to blast into space inside the homemade rocket he built in his barn. Just be home in time for dinner, Charlie. Billy Bob Thornton portrays Charlie in this charmer about chasing dreams…and about what it means to be a family. 10,000 pounds of rocket fuel alone can’t lift Charlie into the heavens. He needs a launch/recovery crew, and he has one of the best: his wife (Virginia Madsen) and children, dreamers all. They have liftoff. Our spirits have uplift. Gravity cannot hold down our dreams. “The Astronaut Farmer” is that kind of movie.”
Honestly, I still didn’t have any idea based on this description of what this movie truly meant to me as a “dreamer”, but it looked innocent enough to bring home for may son so we did.
Of course, just as soon as we got home, we had to put the movie in, and I got to tell you, after watching this film, I think it meant more to me than it did to Brian. The little man with a Big Dream who is determined to make that dream come true at any and all costs and despite the seemingly insurmountable odds stacked against him. As someone who has dreams of his own, I could also relate to the skeptics and cynics in the film from NASA, the FBI, and the town folks – who, making fun of and belittle Farmer for even thinking he could possibly pull something like this off. What’s even more telling of the film is that the children in the film, (who haven’t been totally brain washed yet), are not only interested but believe in what Farmer is doing.
The entire film can be summed up in one scene where Farmer must go before a committee to plead his case and ask for permission to launch his rocket from his Texas ranch. After being poked and prodded for hours by the folks at NASA, the FAA and various other Government officials, Farmer gets the last word about his dream.
I thought to myself, “Why didn’t this film get more notoriety? This is a really good film!” There are a couple of reasons for this. Director Michael Polish is noted more for his independent films with lower budgets. Second, fantasy certainly meets reality as reviews and critics berate this film in many of the same ways portrayed in the film itself. Using words and phrases like bounding leap of faith required, glosses over so many of its logistical details, or I’ve heard of “suspension of disbelief” before, but this is ridiculous! After watching this film, knowing the message it was trying to impress, I found many of these reviews quite ironic, and wonder if some of the critics even “got it”.
I certainly did, and I found this film not only utterly refreshing in it’s portrayal of how we should never let go of our dreams, but how we need to instill in our family that dreams are not only good, but very important.
For any adult who still has dreams left inside them and seem to be facing incredible odds and ridicule from those outside, “The Astronaut Farmer” is a must see film.
