Happy New Year!
I promise I’ll get back to our regular scheduled posts starting next week. I’ve been enjoying my time with family the last two weeks, and honestly, don’t want anything to take away from this current experience. We’re having a blast!
I do however, want to wish everyone a Happy New Year! Not only is this the beginning of a new year, but a new decade to boot!
That being said, it’s the time of year when just about everybody makes New Years Resolutions.
Problem? Most couldn’t tell you what resolutions they made last year at this time, let alone change anything in their life during the last year.
Those who fail to plan – plan to fail.
Think about it. You don’t take a trek across the country without a road map do you? You don’t build a house without a set of blueprints, right? Heck, as much as it pains me to say this – being a guy and all – my son and I broke out the directions for the gigantic Lego set he got for Christmas.
We couldn’t have created this massive police and fire station without it.
So why don’t most people follow a plan in life? Most I suspect, simply don’t know how. It’s not something that’s really taught in school or by most peers.
Good friend, President and COO of YTB Marketing, Andy Cauthen, has been helping those of us who plug into his GoodDay@ytb.com column with some great tips and ideas on planning and goal setting. It shouldn’t surprise you that each of our Founders and Corporate Executives consider themselves in part “students” and they’re always looking for ways to improve and expand personally and professionally.
The beauty of it is – like everything else in our company, we share what we find in hopes that it can inspire and benefit others. (Another one of those traits found in MLM that Traditional Business should expand on.)
So here it is…76 tips on goal setting. Not only the WHY – but the HOW in turning your goals into something measurable and tangible.
The reason I like this short piece so much? It’s a real time saver. What Andy has done is take the best of the best from the literally thousands of books, programs and seminars out there dedicated to goal setting and condensed it into one concise and instructive article. It’s one of his key attributes and why the company values him the way they do. (Well, that and an outrageous sense of humor.)
So what do you say? Are you going to create a plan for 2010 – or are you just going to keep driving because you’re to proud to ask for directions? (By the way – guilty as charged when it comes asking for directions.)
But when it comes to a plan in life…since I found most of these tips years ago, I expand on my list and my plan each and every year.
I can tell you from personal experience…when done right, it truly works.
Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Doug!
It will be nice having you back as my weekly dose of news and information. I’m tired of reading “junk” on the internet.

Happy New Year!
I like the way you think, and thanks for the list.
Let’s make 2010 the BEST year yet!

Happy New Year to you both!
Dale, if I could recommend an easy New Years Resolution for you…
If you’re tired of it, then quit reading “junk”.
If it doesn’t serve or move you in a positive direction, why read it? You DO have a choice. I made the choice a few months ago and I can’t tell you how quickly things turned around. Not only did things start falling into place, but every aspect from family, career, finances and self worth expanded.
All kinds of people from many different walks of life were introduced to me over the last 6 months. Once “outsiders” were able to express how dysfunctional, childish and bizarre the bantering and obsession about MLM and YTB really was, my perspective changed as well. A new freind of mine who has a PhD. in Childhood Development correlated what you call junk as “Grown adults who behave like children because they haven’t acquired proper problem solving skills.”
Once that door was open, I realized it had nothing to do with me, my company, or the industry I work in. Any issue, problem, fear, anger, bitterness, or resentment that someone else has is emotional baggage you shouldn’t carry. It’s THEIR “baggage” not yours.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again – and expecting different results. Stop the insanity – stop reading.
There are millions of sites and links on the internet that can empower you and support you. Try Travel Weekly, Travel Agent Central for starters. (Not the boards and forums that waste your time with insults and name calling, but the actual articles written by professionals with real names.)
Give it a rest for just one week – then if you want to go back and read after the dust and smoke has a chance to clear. You’ll realize very quickly that once you’ve broken the cycle, going back is a regression in mentality and attitude. Their fears, anger, bitterness haven’t changed a bit and likely never will because they simply don’t know how.
You however can because you have freedom of choice.

I see you got word about your graphic.
Thanks for the kind words but how did you know about the picture if you don’t read his blog??
I suppose you’re right about one thing. His last few posts have been nothing more that an attempt at public humiliation. Please know that I admire you and think the world about you and your family. It’s hard to read these kind of things about people you care about.
All the best.

Dale,
Word came to me through this feed via my blogging software. It captures any links to me and notifies me. The only reason I clicked on it was because I saw something from “affiliate marketing”. These type of “spoof” blogs are used all the time.
Regardless of how I found out, John happens to be correct, the graphic is copyrighted and it was my responsibility to take it down.
I apologize to those who understand what the word actually means. Unfortunately you are correct, there are those who simply won’t accept anything of the sort, and feel they need to humiliate another individual – because it’s all they know.
Remember: “Grown adults who behave like children because they haven’t acquired proper problem solving skills.”
All the best right back at you.

Aren’t those “spoof” blogs like SPAM? Couldn’t you report him for doing that?
I also see poeple use your stuff all the time. Why don’t you copyright your stuff? You should get credit for it!
It just turns my stomach to see this kind of stuff on the internet and there’s got to be a way to stop it. What do you think?
January 2nd, 2010 at 6:42 pm
1. I’m quite certain that’s not John’s doing. I see this kind of stuff all the time. (Even on my own articles.) You are correct however about it being “SPAM”. In order to report it – that would require me to take ownership of another’s actions and thinking. I’m not willing to play the role of “nark” or “tattle tail” because they’re grown adults and doing something like that would require me to lower myself to their level.
2. I don’t copyright my stuff because I come from a mindset that “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”. If someone thinks highly enough about what I’ve written I simply don’t have a problem with it. Besides, most of what I see, I do get credit. That being said, I must also realize that others can be extremely sensitive about getting the proper credit and/or compensation for what they create.
3. The only way to “stop it” really is to ignore it. I promise – if you stop reading it – not only will your stomach will stop churning but the little sugar plum fairies won’t be dancing around in your head any longer. I do see on occasion evidence with links from Scam.com and John’s blog to know that they’re still discussing something about me. (Via the same tracking software the provided the link to the spoof blog.) These days, I just smile because I know that I’m the one who’s dancing around in THEIR head. But I certainly don’t click on any of the links any longer. (Cause seeing a bunch of grown adults act they do turns my stomach too.)
That being said, I’d like to close the book on this unproductive topic and their meaningless issues about what a few critics think of me. I have a list of thousands of who like what I have to say an write that means more to me than a couple of critics.
Can we move on to something that moves everyone in a positive direction instead? Like maybe how your goal setting is going?
January 2nd, 2010 at 8:28 pm
To be honest I haven’t had much time to write my goals down. I did download the list, and I promise I’ll do them.
Thanks Doug!
January 3rd, 2010 at 7:21 am
Since we’re being real honest here, please take this the right way.
One of the reasons you don’t have time is because you spend your time reading “junk” from people who want to rob you instead of empower you. Their primary objective is to keep you distracted from realizing YOUR goals – to keep you small, weak and ignorant. They insult – they harass – they call you every name in the book.
That’s not a very productive environment to begin thinking about new goals now is it?
Promise me this one thing. Get off the internet and don’t come back until you write down at least 50 new goals for yourself. Not what I want – not what critics want – what DALE wants. Then, take the top 5 goals you have on your list – the ones you want most and transfer them into a Word Document in big bold letters.
Then save this document to your desktop or create a shortcut in your task bar.
Now…the next time your wondering what’s happening on the computer click the Word Document instead of your internet browser and read that instead.
Not only are those goals the ones that matter most – they are the only things you genuinely have any control of.
