Down To Earth…
I like people I can relate to. Heck, who doesn’t? It’s hard even listen to someone who constantly talks down to you like they’re somehow better than you are. It’s my belief that people read this blog and subscribe to my newsletter because I’m an average guy. I can be very serious, but I also like to have fun. I’m also very thorough in documenting what’s written with third party sources to reference.
I’m also human. I’ve made my share of mistakes. When I fall short, I admit it, fix it, and move on.
I’ve written about my good friend Candi May several times here and over the last few years we’ve become great friends. When you have your own ringtone on my iPhone, you know we talk quite a bit. (Actually, I wish she’d call me more, case I love that ringtone!)
Candi is also one of those down to earth individuals you can relate to. There’s no arrogance, false fronts, or an ounce of bitterness in this person to make you think that she’s somehow attempting to con anyone. Yet, she, like me, Coach, Scott, Kim, and some of the other better known names who have the guts to show up on the internet as real people are scorned and ridiculed on a daily basis by a very small group, with this illusion that we’re out to deceive and mislead the general public.
After this years Convention, there was a bizarre twist from a “professional travel agent” with this this idea that Candi stood in front of the Convention crowd and deceived everyone that she learned how to “travel like a pro” while in YTB. The anger and scorn it generated was incredible, especially when you see the the actual video and what was really said at this years Convention.
Which ironically, we now have.
Now, if you can stomach it, go read the emotional outbursts from the “traditional side” of the fence, and then watch the demeanor of one of our own. Compare her speech with the tangled mess that was trumped up from the other side and then ask yourself…”who would I rather work with?”
There’s really no question in my mind who I’d enjoy working with more. (And also learn more from.) There’s also no question who’s desperate and who’s secure in who they are and what they do. Mind you, Candi has never had any desire to lash out in an attempt to defend who she is and what she’s accomplished. No need when you compare the two sides.
However, I’m going to step to the side here, and let you be the judge. Make your own choice on your own who you’d pick to be mentored by in this industry. Afterward, if you’d like to find out more about this incredible lady, you can read more about her on her new blog.
Makes no difference to me, cause I’ve already made mine.

All well and good, Doug, except that she failed to mention anything about what she has done as a YTB agent. All her travel was as a TTA, which has no bearing on what she does now. What has she done since she joined YTB? What benefits has she been able to leverage as a YTB agent?
September 4th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
She failed to mention, or you failed to ask?
If you’d take the time to ask, she’d tell you. I know for example only because I’ve been offered the same Bahamas, Cancun for free, (well, almost, we had to get ourselves down there) and Seminars at Sea…
Suppliers really don’t care who you’re with Ann, only that you produce.
September 4th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
“Suppliers really don’t care who you’re with Ann, only that you produce.”
Incorrect you are. ALL of the companies I’ve worked for require an IATAN card and my last employer NEVER allowed any travel MLMers to attend our trade shows, get any discounts, or attend a FAM. EVER! A CLIA card was not permissible either because we didn’t sell cruises.
“I’m also human. I’ve made my share of mistakes. When I fall short, I admit it, fix it, and move on.”
Like your bankruptcy which you said you wouldn’t do? We heard all of your excuses but the fact remains, you said, “I have every intention of paying what I owe.” You also said, “A hypocrite would have thrown up their arms and filed bankruptcy, or asked for a bailout.” And then you said, “For the record, I’m not proud of what happened, but after it’s all said and done, my credit will be in tact, and there will be a tremendous amount of satisfaction that I personally paid off every penny I owe.” Didn’t happen just as this won’t make it in the comments section.

Please check your facts Moron. Not only have I not filed for bankruptcy, but just successfully made good on another account.
Second, we didn’t need IATA for any of those trips.
But thank you for providing yet another example of the emotional outbursts we’ve become so accustom to seeing from your side of the fence.
PS – Writing up a great promotion from Pleasant Holidays for the newsletter. Remember them? Care to participate in the Booking Bonus?

“She failed to mention, or you failed to ask?”
So… It’s not her fault because I failed to ask.
Spin it all you want. She was giving a speech, not holding a discussion group where questions could be asked. She failed to give pertinent info to the group – I call that misleading. And you know what? Even if she had been holding a discussion where questions could be asked, do you really think any of those people know enough to ask?
YTB says you don’t have to know anything about the travel industry to be a part of the “7 trillion dollar industry”. Don’t you think it then behooves them to be a little more forthcoming with information that pertains to YTB? As opposed to regaling them with stories of ‘traveling like a rock star’ to places they can’t go (on discount) because YTB does not have IATAN?
September 4th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
“I won a contest” – “Book lots and lots of travel” – “All business is relationship marketing”
Oh yeah…I can see how you want to claim that’s misleading people.
Truth is, you want people thinking this is exclusive – when it’s not. I’m sure it makes you feel better about your profession, which I have no doubt you’re good at.
But you can stop the act about NEEDING an IATA to win a contest or developing bonds with suppliers when you book lot’s of business to get attention and perks.
September 4th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
“Truth is, you want people thinking this is exclusive”
Not true. What I object to is someone throwing out information making it seem like they can do these things – when they can’t.
“I won a contest” – “Book lots and lots of travel” – “All business is relationship marketing”
Nothing wrong with those statements. But they need to be qualified, and no one ever does.
Don’t accuse me of acting. I know you don’t need IATA to do a lot of things. My objection to Candi’s little speech is that she didn’t qualify that the stories she was telling were specifically done when she was not with YTB (she sort of glossed over that) and that because YTB does not have IATAN, RTAs cannot go to some of the resorts she was expounding on. She would have been better served to stick to her experiences as a YTB agent. Then you and I wouldn’t be having this conversation.
September 4th, 2009 at 6:50 pm
It IS misleading. She is describing all of the perks and benefits of a job she had BEFORE YTB. She described a resort that will not honor any bookings from YTB.
And I did not know that they had “seminars at sea” from Cancun and the Bahamas.
September 4th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
“Please check your facts Moron. Not only have I not filed for bankruptcy, but just successfully made good on another account.”
Right, my mistake. You had your wife file for bankruptcy which still affects your credit (or lack of it). Spin, spin, spin. We’re still stuck with your bills and that’s a fact. You went against your word. Or wait, aren’t you two partners any longer? Yes, you were last week. She hasn’t pulled the bankruptcy, has she?
Why would I be interested in PH? I haven’t worked for them in over 20 years. I do recall you badmouthing them as a nothing company though. I don’t think you had even heard of them UNTIL you thought I worked for them and tried to expose me as current rep. Wrong again, of course.
Exactly what companies offer you perks out of the many suppliers out there (besides Gateway)?
September 4th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
More emotional outburst…how special.
Moron, you’re nothing more than a screen name and some alter ego. While you hide behind that, I’ve been open and honest. If you feel the need to carry around resentment and anger towards me over a situation that you know nothing about, your welcome to do so. It’s incredibility shallow, and puts me in control. If that works for you, I don’t have a problem with it.
Thanks to your stunt trying to rat me out for “badmouthing” PH, YTB’s relationship was strengthened. They saw right through your crap so oddly enough I want to thank you for that emotional outburst. Without your stunt, PH might still be just an icon on our website.
To the rest of you….
If YOU feel it’s misleading, and YOU take issue with it, then it’s YOUR problem. If you think I should make it mine as well, I’m sorry, but the activity is a complete waste of my time and energy. It also compounds my perception that your not a very smart or healthy group to be associated with.
I took Candi May’s speech exactly the way it was intended. If you book lots of travel, develop relationships in a professional manor, and learn and grow as a travel professional, the entire industry will open it’s arms to you. That’s the way it works, and there is nothing you can do or say that’s going to change my perception of that because that’s been my experience.
These perks and trips are a privilege for those who actually produce and book travel, and develop relationships in the industry. If you think perks are owed only to you because you have an IATA; your more than welcome to carry that torch. Be warned however, that’s a pompous, arrogant, and condescending attitude that pushes more people away than it attracts.
Therefore, I’ll take a pass on changing my perception over to yours. I know it’s frustrating, I know you desperately need to be heard on this issue, and I know how it cements your limiting beliefs that I just don’t get it.
But unfortunately, I just don’t care and am unwilling to commune with you over an issue that simply doesn’t exist.
Bottom line. Don’t come crying to me with your blathering about how you take issue with something that I don’t have an ounce of emotional attachment to, and am unwilling to participate in.
You can jump up and down, call me all sorts of names, pretend that I don’t know the difference between a FAM and a Seminar at Sea, and call Candi’s speech misleading till the cows come home.
You’re not only being stupid, but you’re showing how insignificant your lives have become.
I’d tell you to get over it, but doing so would shatter any excuse you can conjure up to hold on to your hate, bitterness, and resentment.
September 5th, 2009 at 7:38 am
So Candi won a trip to the Royal Hideaway in a booking contest and they’re upset that she needed an IATAN to go? How does that work?
September 5th, 2009 at 7:55 am
Oh… PLEASE don’t let that cat out of the bag! I know you and others have been paying attention here, but it would ruin the illusion that Candi wouldn’t be able to go because she’s in YTB – and YTB doesn’t have an IATA.
Therefore I’m sorry – she doesn’t qualify – and couldn’t possibly win or go because IATA needs to be involved in some form or fashion.
I know it sounds bizarre and very strange – but according the John, Ann, and Moron that’s how it works.
Who knew?
September 5th, 2009 at 12:49 pm
You know Doof, I find it totally amazing that you skirt the issue and have misled everyone about the bankruptcy. That’s unethical, much like your claims of making a living with YTB and what the average person can accomplish. In reality, the figures don’t lie and neither do your financial problems.
Regarding PH, the last PH-YTB Sale-a-Thon was a disaster according the reps at PH. It didn’t generate enough business profit to merit the cost to them for having it. They will not be attending Funshine, just as 99% of the suppliers won’t.
You may now resume spreading the word of how great YTB is and scam people out of their money. You really are a despicable person right along with your leaders. May I suggest you read Candi’s blog and her claims? Anyway, thank you for opening your blog to comments which really surprised me. I wonder how long that will last?
September 5th, 2009 at 8:14 pm
Not “skirting” at all. Simply attempting to stay on the topic of the article and unwilling to get distracted by an alter ego and the illusions that reside only in someones head.
If you would want to discuss “financial troubles” I’d would first ask that you read the documentation posted in an article I wrote regarding consumer fraud and the new legislation to protect consumers. Once that tasks has been met, I’ll be more than happy to discuss actually documentation and not some grand illusion.
Here, we are discussing Candi’s speech. So try to keep up.
I don’t know much about you Moron. I know you live in California, and that you’re retired. How or why someone could be so incredibly constipated without much hope of a laxative curing what aisle you is what I find amazing.
Nobodies holding a gun to your head making you read my blog of Candi’s. It’s the Labor Day weekend. Go fishing – grill something – start up a poker game – heck, you might even try getting drunk. (Just don’t drive if you do.) I promise, I’ll be across the country here in Atlanta without any possible way of interfering unless you allow me to run around in that crazy head of yours.
Oh, and for the record, Pleasant Holidays will not only be at Funshine, they’ll be hosting a seminar on Saturday for their valued TSO’s to boot.
Am I to assume the name “Moron” is starting to stick with PH now too because of your dysfunctional obsession over YTB?
September 6th, 2009 at 3:29 pm
I really appreciate your concern there, Doof, but the fact remains that you are in a partnership with your wife and she declared bankruptcy. I would assume some of those bills were yours, right? I did read your little consumer protection article where you were shafted and of course the victim who took zero responsibility of your own actions. Well, that and throwing your wife under the bus.
Thank you for correcting me about PH and Funshine. Looks like YTB has a multitude of vendors there, just waiting to break down the doors. Where are the biggies? The list seems to be dwindling.
Do want me to get on topic about Candi May? Okey dokey. This is from her blog: ” I am absolutely committed to assisting at least 100 more in achieving success in their own business and reaching millionaire status within the next 3-5 years… be one of them…” Now I ask you since you’re so close to her, has this happened? Take particular note of “100 more in reaching millionaire status.” That sounds to me like she has already made at least 100 people millionaires several years back since this an old bio. And why aren’t you in her group and a millionaire yet? Simple questions require simple answers.
Thanks for your concern about my activities. Yes, I’m retired. Yes, I am very interested in YTB and it’s demise. But more important, YOU amuse me. It’s free entertainment. BTW, I don’t drink nor do I do drugs. I do however gamble, enjoy my kids, pets, and watching scams disintegrate before my very eyes. I even had breakfast with 14 supplier reps this morning here in SAN. I also get particular jollies from watching the recruiters go down that continue with this scam. Can you relate?
September 6th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
Yesterday I was “despicable”.
Today…I’m “amusing”.
If I wasn’t able to verify that both comments came from the same IP address, I’d swear you were two different people. I accept your statement that you don’t do drugs, but some sort of medication should be sought out Moron to curb those enormous emotional swings. You really are a train wreck.
I find Candi’s desire and commitment to help others achieve millionaire status admirable. Knowing her personally, I’ll be the first to congratulate her when her goals are achieved. But for you, a desire to help others pinches your rectal glands, which in turn induces more needless pain and suffering.
I will however, take exception to your comment about throwing my wife under the bus. You weren’t holding her in your arms while she sobbed over the garnishment, after we refused to pay THOUSANDS more than what we actually owed. Or the sleepless nights wondering how she/we could pay our bills or put food on the table for our children without a bank account. (Well, joint…I still had my business account.) If it weren’t for YTB, I don’t know how we would have made it through the summer. While I didn’t agree with the choice, I also love her and she needed my support and understanding. Therefore, I find your accusations are not only completely uncalled for, but repulsive, and a fabrication that will no longer be tolerated here.
Capiche?
